Severe weather broke out in SW VA as a low developed in NC . There were numorous reports of hail and wind damage as well as flash floodinfg but most happened just south of us in the NRV(new River Valley) we had one interesting storm but just under severe limits with 45 mph win gusts and torrental rain of an inch an hour totaling in 1.34 inches for the day

It was my moms bithday so we i spent most of my time with her and stayed at home to see what would hit us....

SEVERE WEATHER DUE FRIDAY

INFO COURTESY OF STORM PREDICTION CENTER

...NEW ENGLAND INTO THE SERN STATES...

LARGE-SCALE PATTERN FRI APPEARS QUITE SIMILAR TO THAT WHICH PRODUCED
SEVERE WEATHER OVER THE MID ATLANTIC STATES AND NEW ENGLAND
YESTERDAY /WED/. AIR MASS IN ADVANCE OF COLD FRONT WILL REMAIN
QUITE MOIST WITH DEWPOINTS OF 65-75 F. WHILE MIDLEVEL LAPSE RATES
WILL REMAIN WEAK...POCKETS OF STRONGER DIABATIC HEATING WILL
CONTRIBUTE TO MLCAPE APPROACHING 1000-1500 J/KG OVER SWRN NEW
ENGLAND INTO THE DELMARVA...TO 1500-2000 J/KG FROM SERN VA THROUGH
THE CNTRL/ERN CAROLINAS.

FRONTAL BAND OF STORMS IS EXPECTED TO BE ONGOING FRI MORNING W OF
THE APPALACHIANS WITHIN ZONE OF DEEP ASCENT IN ADVANCE OF MIDLEVEL
IMPULSE. THE COMBINATION OF DCVA IN ADVANCE OF SHORT WAVE TROUGH
AND DIRECT CIRCULATION ASSOCIATED WITH EXIT REGION OF UPPER JET
STREAK OVER THE LOWER GREAT LAKES AND QUEBEC SHOULD LEAD TO AN
INCREASE IN STORM COVERAGE AND INTENSITY BY LATE MORNING/EARLY
AFTERNOON E OF THE BLUE RIDGE. INCREASING GRADIENT FLOW /40-50 KT
SWLY WINDS IN THE 850-500 MB LAYER/ ATTENDANT TO MIDLEVEL TROUGH
WILL RESULT IN SUFFICIENT VERTICAL SHEAR FOR SUPERCELL AND/OR BOWING
STRUCTURES CAPABLE OF DAMAGING WINDS...HAIL AND PERHAPS ISOLATED
TORNADOES.

ISOLATED SEVERE STORMS WILL BE POSSIBLE SEWD THROUGH THE SERN STATES
WITHIN A MOIST AND MODERATELY UNSTABLE AIRMASS. HOWEVER...DECREASED
FORCING FOR ASCENT AND VERTICAL SHEAR WITH SWD EXTENT SHOULD LIMIT
THE POTENTIAL FOR A MORE ORGANIZED SEVERE THREAT.

we will have to see how this pans out

STORMS CAUSE HAIL AND TORRENTAL DOWNPOURS ON THIS CHASEDAY

Desided to head out and grab a look at an explosive cell theat developed near blue ridge va area north of Stewartsville. I hopped in the truck and desided to go take a peak . i moved 4 miles east of my home location next to the fd i vol at and it gives u a good view . u can easily pull out a rain free base and a rain and hail core. the base lowered and it was trying to get its act together as some scud was getting sucked into it. as the rear flank passed winds of nearly 40 mph were observed
